Welcome to the Minstead Study Centre's Community Web Site

This web site is designed to bring you information about the Study Centre's programme of Community Events. We are very grateful to the Barker-Mill Estate for assisting us with some vital funding to enable the programme to develop. The information on the site will grow as the project develops and you can join in by signing up and give us ideas, feedback as well as posting photos and videos.

Giving a bit . . . for free!


You can support the Minstead Study Centre every time you shop online.  All you have to do is go to, create an account and join the Friends of Minstead Study Centre community.


When you want to make an online purchase, all you have to do is log into your givingabit account and access the store for your purchases through this site.  There are lots of well-known stores e.g. Amazon. John Lewis, Argos etc.  Each time you make a purchase, gvingabit receives a donation from the store, up to 3% of the value of your purchases, which is passed straight on to our charity, Friends of Minstead Study Centre.  This gives us a valuable stream of donations at no additional cost to you.

Willow Working for the Garden

On a crisp, clear February afternoon 10 hardy souls gathered in the top field at the Study Centre to learn the skill of willow weaving.  Under Olivia Keith's expert tutelage we all set about our projects...

Working with a beautiful array of, amongst other woods, willow, buckthorn, maple and ash we constructed a marvellous collection of structures that will now grace various gardens across Hampshire and Wiltshire.

Continental Breads were Baked!

Flour flew, gluten grew and pittas puffed over the weekend of 3/4 December 2011 as two, one day, courses took place at the Study Centre under expert guidance and tuition of Paul Merry from 'Panary' in Dorset.

Altogether 20 apprentice master bakers…

Wild Cooking in the November Sunshine

At the time of planning it I imagined the 'Wild Cooking' course taking place inside the Round House around a roaring wood fire.  But in the event it was sunny and quite warm so we 'had lessons outside'!

African Drumbeats

On a beautiful summer's evening under the Great North Oak around 20 people enjoyed the inspiring rhythms and expert tutelage of Noah Messomo as he demonstrated the arts of playing Djembes, a Balafon and assorted other traditional African instruments.
